Our Newmarket Project

In 2020, during the pandemic, we were getting calls for help with debt locally, but a number specifically from the Newmarket area. We thought there must be somewhere we could direct them to... but there wasn't.

We became aware that although there was a foodbank in Newmarket run by Newmarket Open Door, there were no organisations offering debt support in the same handholding, relational way that we do to provide solutions. This meant a lack of people being able to escape the debt that was leading them to the foodbank in the first place.

It became obvious that the level of need was enormous and we knew that as the nearest local town to Haverhill, we needed to have a dedicated advisor, which we put in place in November 2021.

Through our local relationship with the Newmarket Volunteer Network Centre, Diana started working from their office once or twice a week, then moved to the Newmarket Racing Centre in the centre of town two days a week as part of the new Community Hub.

Her office is now open 3 days a week for appointments, and she works with many of the local services, including social prescribers and Open Door, and uses her expertise and relationships to help more local people who have fallen into financial hardship, or are in crisis, to take control of their debt and of their lives again.
