Community Empowerment Collective - What motivates us? - Can I really make a difference?
In 2022 we hired our Engagement and Advocacy Lead, Saffron Carter, and embarked on a new Organising and Local Mobilising project in partnership with the Trussell Trust.
She is now part of REACH's Community Engagement team, and also has an amazing team of volunteers that make up the Community Empowerment Collective!
Community Empowerment Collective
Why not join our Community Empowerment Collective, a passionate group of volunteers who work together with our Engagement and Advocacy Lead, Saffron, to design and deliver local campaigns to reduce poverty locally! Together, we can drive change!
Here's what they've been up to:
-
Free School Meal campaign – helping everyone eligible apply for and receive Free School Meals and a vast array of additional support
-
Guarantee Our Essentials campaign, in conjunction with Trussell - collecting local experiences and pushing for national changes to UC to ensure everyone can afford the essentials, such as food, warmth, and clothing.
-
Empowering Communities campaign - trying to reduce the stigma of asking for help with food, debt, or financial advice.

We have the potential to be powerful change-makers because we have:
-
Relationships with people across their communities who care about social injustice and equality
-
Volunteers who are committed to doing something to combat financial hardship
-
Knowledge of experiences of financial crisis and relationships with people with lived experiences
-
A public profile and trusted voice
What motivates us?
We long to see thriving families and individuals living their lives to the full and believe everyone should have enough to afford the essentials in life.
We believe change is possible.
The key to ending the need for our services and foodbank locally is identifying and addressing the underlying causes of financial hardship and crisis.
Can I really make a difference? - YES!
