Paula and Rob's Story

Thanks to you, Paula and Rob* stayed living in their family home!

Paula and Rob were just about making it through the cost of living crisis but were plunged into debt when they had a family crisis.

The family had been living on the breadline for a while, with Rob’s minimum wage and Paula’s disability benefits only just covering their essential outgoings. When their 16-year-old daughter experienced a breakdown in her mental health, they were distraught and distracted from their stringent budgeting as they focused on supporting her through this crisis.

When they finally opened their post, they had missed payments, including their rent, and began to worry. They tried to find a way to get back on track, but when Paula received an eviction notice, she just didn’t know what to do.  

Before she even told her husband, her first phonecall was to our advisor. She was scared and tearful. What would happen to her daughter if she lost the only home she’d ever lived in?

Just being talked through the next steps, and understanding the process was enough to bring some initial comfort to Paula. Thanks to your support, the cost of their application for a hearing was covered, allowing them to delay their eviction. Your donations also provided a guiding hand for Paula and Rob through their hearing, and gifted them the time needed to set up an affordable payment plan, which our advisor could support them through. 

Because of you, they didn’t have to leave their home. Paula and Rob’s daughter kept the vital stability she needed to get through her breakdown – for the whole family to come home together each night in familiar and comforting surroundings is invaluable.
